1. Giants Ridge, Biwabik, Minnesota
Located in northern Minnesota in the Superior National Forest, Giants Ridge is a family vacation spot known for year-round outdoor activities from skiing to biking to golf. The resort boasts two popular golf courses – the Legend Course and the Quarry Course – that are frequently ranked as some of the best in Minnesota. And while you’re there, you can play the nearby Wilderness at Fortune Bay course overlooking Lake Vermilion.
2. Grand View Lodge, Nisswa, Minnesota
For lakeside golfing in central Minnesota, plan a weekend at Grand View Lodge. The lodge boasts cottages, suites, villas, and townhomes adjacent to the Grand View’s two courses, the Pines Course and the Preserve. For a more scenic game, you’ll want to book the Pines, but for a more advanced game, the Preserve is where it’s at. The Grand View also has extensive practice facilities.
3. Firestone Country Club, Akron, Ohio
Firestone Country Club in Akron boasts a variety of golf vacation packages and luxury accommodations. Firestone was originally developed as a Firestone tire company employee park back in 1929 and only opened to the public recently. Firestone offers three golf courses with different skill levels in mind, and the PGA has been hosted at the South Course a few times.
4. Cleveland Metroparks, Cleveland, Ohio
The Cleveland Metroparks system is made up of 18 beautiful public parks full of trials, rivers, beaches, and stunning scenery. And some of the park system’s most popular features are the eight public golf courses located throughout Cuyahoga County, each boasting a unique experience for golfers of all skill levels. For the ultimate golf vacation, spend a week in Cleveland and try to hit each golf course.
5. Brickyard Crossing, Indianapolis, Indiana
Located at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Brickyard Crossing is a popular course that is built on the grounds of the racetrack and is regularly voted as one of the top 100 courses in the country. It’s also located conveniently close to a few other great public courses including The Trophy Club, Rock Hollow, and the Purgatory Golf Club.
6. Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex West Lafayette, Indiana
Located on the Purdue University campus, this golf complex features two 18-hole Pete Dye-designed championship courses as well as a professional training center. The Ackerman-Allen Course features white sand bunkers and rolling hills, while the Kampen Course features a natural celery bog, ponds, native grasslands, and sand bunkers.
7. Sultan’s Run, Jasper, Indiana
Located in Southern Indiana, Sultan’s Run is a breathtaking golf course if you’re looking for plenty of natural scenery and wildlife. The Sultan’s Run Golf Club features 300 rolling acres of woods, and the golf course is known for its bent grass surfaces and world-class golf surface.
8. Coyote Crossing Golf Club, West Lafayette, Indiana
A Hale Irwin design meant to blend seamlessly into the local terrain, Coyote Crossing is a scenic semi-private golf course surrounded by mature woods, ponds, and other local scenery. Burnett’s Creek winds around the property, adding to the natural scenery.
